Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway Most of this line is still open. This railway ran from Derby to Hampton-in-Arden. It ran in competition with the Midland Counties Railway and was continued north to Leeds by the North Midland Railway and even further north by the York and North Midland Railway. |

This company merged with the Midland Counties Railway and the North Midland Railway to form the Midland Railway. George Hudson was instrumental in this merger which saved the ruinous cut-price competition this line was having with the Midland Counties Railway for receipts to destinations on the London and Birmingham Railway and other west coast companies.
